Marion Mine Hike

Headed an hour north of La Veta today to the San Isabel National Forest near Rye, Colorado. Found a nice trail that went through many stands of Aspens and finished at the abandoned Marion Mine.

Marion Mine was in operation from 1906 to 1916 and mined zinc, silver, copper, and lead.

The trail up to the Marion Mine starts up at a fairly steep pitch.

One of Heather's bird friends...

After the initial climb you eventually come to some really nice stands of Aspen in the higher elevations.

Nice mountain flowers...

Winding through the aspens - a very relaxing experience listening to the leaves quake.

Following the sign to the mine.
