Historic Battlefield Trail - Brownsville, TX

Last year we discovered some really nice bike trails in Brownsville, Texas. The Historic Battlefield Trail is a really useful as it connects to the north-side of Brownsville starting at the Palo Alto Battlefield National Historic Monument and goes 9 miles south to the heart of the Brownsville  Cultural and Arts District.

Primarily a north - south oriented trail, it is nice to ride this into the wind for the first half of the ride and catch a tail-wind back to your start. There is ample parking at the Palo Alto Battlefield but be aware that the gates close to the parking lot areas at 5:00 p.m.

We started our ride from our RV park in Los Fresnos and rode some service roads to the Palo Alto Battlefield to pick-up the north trail-head.

Our goal for this ride included a lunch stop for lunch at 1848 BBQ.

Wonderful brisket, turkey, spicy slaw, mac & cheese, and cornbread pudding!

There was a really nice lady making incredible homemade gingerbread person cookies!

Our little package of gingerbread person cookies.

Our final stop - a quick visit to the 7th and Park Bicycle Shop.

If you happen to ride on the streets in Brownsville, you will find many efforts to incorporate bicycle lanes throughout the city. So nice to see consideration in urban planning for transportation other than cars.

Parting shot.
