Up and Down Ride
Our last day in Silver City today, so we decided on a ride from the RV park out past Pinos Altos to the trail head area for Signal Peak. A nice 15 miles out and 15 miles back with right at 3,000 feet of climbing!
This was all along scenic Highway 15, part of the Trail of the Mountain Spirits Scenic Byway.
The first five miles from Silver City to Pinos Altos takes you to the Continental Divide and up around 1,110 feet. We took a short break for a photo opportunity by the Divide.
Pinos Altos was once the largest community is Grant County, New Mexico - but alas the mining fizzled out and so did Pinos Altos.
The scenery along the Trail of the Mountain Spirits is incredible and there is very little traffic.
We finished our way back to Pinos Altos by way of the last stage of the Tour of the Gila so we could experience the last climb to the finish by the Historic Buckhorn Saloon. I don't think we exactly blistered the climb to the finish but it was fun to experience the pain of the climb ;)
