Signal Peak and Black Peak Hike

Time for a hike in the Gila National Forest, 8.5 miles round trip with 2,450 of climbing! No one else on the trail except our Ladybug friends mating at the top of Signal Peak.

The trail head is located directly off of Highway 15 north of Pinos Altos. Signal Peak and Black Peak are both adjacent to the CDT (Continental Divide Trail).

Heather taking pause on the way up the Signal Peak Trail.

Plenty of rocky areas to scramble up on the way.

Heather picking her way through the rocks.

Almost to the top of Signal Peak with beautiful vistas.

The top of Signal Peak.

The rocks at the top were covered in Ladybugs - some sort of mating ritual???

From the top of Signal Peak we hiked a connector trail over to the CDT and then up to the top of Black Peak.

The view from the top of Black Peak.

Parting shot - our boots at the Black Peak Summit USGS marker.
