We are spending a couple of weeks down in the Los Fresnos, Texas area, about 24 miles inland from South Padre Island. We made an outing today to the South Padre Island Birding and Nature Center on the island. There is an small admission fee for the private non-profit birding center. The main attraction is a variety of bird blinds that are connected by a series of elevated boardwalks. The SPI Birding Center sits uniquely where the inter-coastal waterway meets with the water treatment plant of South Padre Island, providing a unique wetlands habitat with both salt and fresh water.
Here are a few shots that I got while looking at all the birds.
(Disclaimer - we may not have identified all of them correctly)
We are retired, live/travel full-time in a travel trailer, and enjoy the outdoors.
