The Arizona winter weather is providing us some nice opportunities to hike and bike. The past three outings have included two sections of the Arizona Trail and the Hohokam/McKenzie Ranch trails. If I am mountain biking, Heather hikes the same trail - it works out pretty nice. We have also hiked together on the Arizona Trail from Davidson Canyon to Aqua Verde Creek and back. We are trying a new gravel ride tomorrow - hoping the roads aren't too sandy!
Day two brought us to Phillipsburg, St. Martin. We spent part of our day hiking along the Natural Pool Trail. This scenic trail follows the coastline from Guana Bay down to Back Bay. Lots of beautiful views as you make your way along the cliffs overlooking the Caribbean towards St. Barts. Our hike was out and back to a very rocky beach that offered some great beach combing for shells. After our hiking was complete we followed our local hiking guide's recommendation of Taloula Mango's for lunch and libations - excellent local food and tasty drinks.
A cool day in the Rio Grande Valley so we went for a walk to see birds at Resaca De La Palma State Park and World Birding Center. We saw many of the usual suspects like the Great Kiskadee, Green Jay, Altamira Oriole, Wild Turkey along with an Armadillo and a curious Coyote.
Heather really wanted to visit this area today, so about a 90 minute drive north from Silver City to The Catwalk. Definitely worth the trip up here!
Time for a hike in the Gila National Forest, 8.5 miles round trip with 2,450 of climbing! No one else on the trail except our Ladybug friends mating at the top of Signal Peak.
A very nice out and back hike just a few minutes from our RV park in Creede - easy climbing with plenty of wildflowers. This trail in the Rio Grande National Forest follows Deep Creek in its entirety. We did five miles up and five miles back down today.
Time to take it easy with a shorter morning hike - this time from Creede called the "Up and Over" hike. The Bryant's led us on this hike that they had done previously - definitely worth doing more than once!
A hike with the Bryant's today - a beautiful drive up Pool Table Road to Hanson's Mill Campground, then on to the trail - hiking towards the Wheeler Geological Area in the La Garita Wilderness.
